Emberville is an action-adventure dungeon crawler wrapped around a town-rebuilding mechanic, made by independent studio Cygnus Cross and co-created with streamer CohhCarnage. It blends Diablo-style combat and loot with a Stardew-like rhythm of farming, fishing, crafting and rebuilding — often described as “Diablo meets Stardew Valley.” It launches into Steam Early Access on October 27, 2026.

The Premise

You wake up deep inside a massive, strange structure called the Vitromotus — a vast underground world created as a magical dungeon where a mysterious energy known as kymia, born from emotion, brings the dead back to life. You have no memories. As you carve your way out, you rescue survivors from a once-thriving town — now ravaged by the prison's forces — and they return home to help you rebuild it, one building and one story at a time.

Is it a farm sim, an ARPG, or both?

Both — and that's the point. Emberville's core loop connects the two halves so that everything you do matters:

  • ⚔️Dungeon half: dive the procedurally generated Vitromotus, fight monsters and bosses, chase loot and rare crafting materials.
  • 🏘️Town half: bring rescued NPCs back to Emberville, rebuild buildings, farm, fish, craft and cook in your own creative area.

The twist that sets it apart: it's pitched squarely at min-maxers. Deep class and weapon progression, cross-class skill inheritance and randomized loot give it real theorycrafting depth underneath a cozy exterior.

Who's making it?

Cygnus Cross is an independent studio co-founded by CohhCarnage (Ben Cassell), a veteran ARPG streamer whose deep knowledge of the genre shapes the game's systems — not just a spokesperson. Its debut is fully voiced by an unusually large cast including Doug Cockle, Amelia Tyler, Matthew Mercer, Jennifer English and Ben Starr, with an original score by composer Greg Dombrowski (founder of Secession Studios).

Is Emberville for you?

Emberville is likely to click if you enjoy cozy-but-deep games: the atmosphere of Stardew Valley or the farming-and-building loop, layered with the buildcrafting of an ARPG like Diablo. It's a single-player experience aimed at players who like to experiment with hybrid builds rather than follow a fixed class. If you're a min-maxer who has always wished your cozy game had a real gear treadmill, this is aimed at you.
